Camden Road The Music Quiz
The winners:
Congratulations to the winners of Camden Road The Music Quiz. Also to Kirit, Elizabeth and their team at No. 1 Fish & Chips for the wonderful fish and chip suppers, and to Dave Prodrick for the quiz itself. Everyone had a great evening and we raised £400 towards the costs of the musical.

A celebration of culture and community in Camden Road
On Saturday 6th December 2008 at 4pm hundreds of people gathered to walk down Camden Road in a huge lantern parade. Hundreds more lined the streets to watch the parade and traders joined in by offering refreshments to passers by. The atmosphere was wonderful.
The parade was led by the band of TS Brilliant, the local sea cadet unit, and followed by lots of local groups who had worked with our designers to make their own lanterns. The groups included the Women's International Network, Pickering Cancer Drop in Centre, St Barnabas School, Barnabus pre-school, St James' School, St Barnabas Church, the Church of Christ, Trinity Youth Theatre, St James' and St Augustines Girl Guides, The Tunbridge Wells Filipino Association and the Kent Liberal Jewish Association. Bringing up the rear was Bloco Fogo, a fabulous Tunbridge Wells based samba band.
When we arrived at the school, local African Drumming group Tricky Beats provided more entertainment while we all warmed up with a cup of tea. Altogether it was a wonderful evening, and a real celebration of the diversity of the Camden Road area. Who knows, maybe it could become an annual event?

Camden Road in Camera
The launch of the Camden Road in Camera
project took place on July 5th 2008 in the Camden
Centre and was very well attended by both
volunteers and new people wanting to know
more about the project.
Philip Whitbourn and Sue Brown ran two tours of the exhibition. Over eighty people have taken part so far and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Two people spotted their relatives in the pictures and were able to provide us with more information about them, which was wonderful. Linda Goodhart’s husband recognised the photograph in Wild Side (number 6) as her great grandfather’s funeral. Linda is now able to supply us with more information about the date and details.

The man on the left of the picture in Preedee Thai Cuisine (picture number 13 on the map), standing next to the milk float with his hand on his hip is George Denny. He worked for the dairy at 78 Camden Road (now Road Radio)until around 1950 - 51 when it was taken over by John Brown's Dairy (later to become Unigate) opposite Skinner School. Thank you to his son Peter Denny for this information.
We hope that the exhibition will return next year while the performances of the community play are running - watch this space for more details.
